When taking an early pregnancy test, is it days till your period or days past ovulation?

When taking an early pregnancy test, is it days till your period or days past ovulation?
I have a question. When you're taking a pregnancy test does it matter how many days till AF or is it days past ovulation that matters?

So if you have a long luteal phase... Should you be able to test longer before you're period?

Answer by Sunnyi have kept track of my luteal phase and i know i have a 13 day luteal phase, so i always test 13 days after ovulation.
